Merci to Jacob for the following contribution:

This October in French we were doing Daily 5.  There is read to self, read to someone, work on writing, word work, and listening centre.  In Mathé, we had a quiz.  We also did Daily 5 in English.  In Sc. Hum, Sc. Nat, and Art, we made sleds.  It was supposed to be a faster form of transportation when crossing the ice to represent the Bering Strait Theory.
That is what we did this month!

Recycle This

We were fortunate enough to have 2 presenters from Recycle This. The put on a skit before presenting the students with different acting exercises.  We look forward to sharing the clips from this at the end of November.

Police Visit

Good evening,

Today 5-22 was fortunate enough to have a visit from Constable Sue Roy-Boyer.   Cst. Sue works in our school division offering assistance whenever it is needed.  She discussed the importance of keeping ourselves safe and making good choices.

She was also gracious enough to answer some questions from the enthusiastic audience.

Merci to Mme Hussey for arranging the visit!

Math Homework

Good evening,

I have sent home a Math assignment which will be due by Thursday.  The are to draw an arena (MTS Centre, Investor's Stadium, Roger's Stadium, The Saddledome, etc.).

The criteria is that it is divided into different sections and that each section represents a different amount of people.  They don't necessarily need to draw 15k circles, but it should represent a big number and different amount of numbers depending on if the section is smaller or bigger.

I do ask that the students use a ruler as much as possible and that they color it.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

A few notes ...

Good morning,

Here are a few important notes:

1. We will begin painting our dioramas on Monday or Tuesday and the students will need a shoebox.  If you have any extras that you can send along, that would be great.  I also have a few extras in case you are not able to send one to school.

2.  I will be giving the students a quiz in Math on Tuesday.  The quiz will cover place values and writing out the number in letter forms and as equations.

Here are a few example of questions I will pose...

1. Write out the number 23 492.
2. What is the value of the digit five in the number 456 231 (ten thousand)
3. Write out the number 23 492 as an equation (20 000+3000+400+90+2)

We are doing centres to review these concepts.  I will have a chance to work with each student prior to the quiz.

Please let me know if you have any questions

Enjoy the long weekend,
Mme C.

Team Building Activity

Today the students participated in a team building activity.  They were given 6 hints and 8 student's names, and they had to correctly place the students in a circle.  It was a challenge, but they all worked very well together.  They just changed their desks today, so this was a good way to practice working with their new group members.
