Need Your Help!

Good afternoon,

I am need of some assistance with the following list:

1. I am still in need of another 1-2 parent volunteers for when we make cookies this week.  If you are able to help, please let me know.  I am also in need of materials such as baking sheets, measuring cups, measuring spoons, etc.  If you are able to send those items to school by tomorrow, that would be great.  Students wrote down some items they are to bring to school in order to bake their cookies. I will provide the basic ingredients such as flour, sugar, salt, cocoa, brown sugar, vanilla extract, baking powder, baking soda, eggs, butter and chocolate chips.  Students have written a note in their agenda with the extra items that they will need for Wednesday.

2. The classroom is in need of kleenex.  If you are able to send a box or 2 with your child, that would be great.

3. I am also in need of some volunteers for Thursday when the students go to Track and Field.  If you are able to volunteer, please let me know.

Thank you all in advance for your help.

Math Quiz

Good morning,

I will be giving the students a Math quiz on Tuesday May 26th.

The quiz will cover representing a fraction, identifying equivalent fractions (eg 1/3=2/6), comparing fractions (eg 1/3>1/4), and turning fractions into decimal numbers (eg 1/2=0.5).

We have been doing centres and we will do a review today and on Monday.

As always, please let me know if you have any questions.

Poems

Good afternoon,

Yesterday I sent the students home with a list of poems that they are to memorize.  Each day next week (beginning on Wednesday), the students will present their poem to the class.  I will give them class time but they may also practice at home.

I also included a copy of the rubric.

As always, please let me know if you have any questions.

Home Reading Assignment

Good morning,

I will be giving a reading assignment today.  It will be due on Thursday.  The students are to read the text entitled Jimmy Goes Home and answer the questions based on the text.  If they finish before Thursday, they will not have any homework for the rest of the week.  Students who do not complete the assignment will miss free time on Friday.

As alway, please feel free to email me if you have any questions.

5-22 Newsletter

Hello parents, it is hard to believe, but we are nearing the end of yet another school year.  Here is what we have been studying in 5-22:

ELA:
We have continued to read the Banished from our Home to go along with our studies of Acadians.  We have also worked on grammar, especially the placements of commas.

Sciences humaines:
We have begun looking at the Hudson Bay Company and their expansion in North America during the 18th century as well as their competition with the North West Company.  We have also begun to look at the animals, which were used during the Fur Trade.

Sciences de la nature:
We have been finishing off the units on the human body.  Students identified the different systems and what their functions are.

Français:
This month we studied the novel Babouche est jalouse and students had an opportunity to illustrate, and make connections. We also finished our reading groups and answering higher-level (inferencing) questions.

Math:
We continue to work on problem solving strategies.  We have begun to look at fractions, vocabulary and equivalent fractions (for example 2/4=1/2)

Art:
The students incorporated Math and Art by creating equivalent fractions. We will have a professional visual artist coming during the month of May.

M. Senecal has also come into the class to begin teaching Family Life and Restitution
