Speech

Good afternoon,

A note was sent home earlier this week regarding the French speeches.  We will be presenting them in front of the class during the morning of February 8th and the two students chosen to represent our class will present in the library on February 19th at 9:00 am.  I have given the students 5 periods to do research.  It has been homework all week.  I will no longer give students time to do research during class.  They are to complete this over the weekend or come at a lunch time.  I am always happy to open the classroom to them.

Quiz

Good morning,

I will be giving the students a quiz in Social Studies on Thursday.  I will go over it with them today, they will bring home their notes to study, and we will do another review in class prior to the quiz.

They are to study the following information:
- Aboriginal Culture of the Aboriginals of the Prairies
- The Bering Strait Theory
- Trading between Aboriginal groups

Homework and Xtra Math

Good morning,

Here are a few notes,

1. The students are to recopy their French Aboriginal story for Monday.

2. I have presented the students the website Xtra Math (xtramath.org).  It is a way for students to practice their addition, subtraction and multiplication.  They are given about 1 minute to do as many questions as they can.  There is an instructional video included.  The students are to login using my email (scraciun@sjsd.net) and their pin which they have written in their agenda.  The login name is simply their first name and then the initial of their last name (eg Stephanie C).  They will be given time in class everyday to complete this and I also ask that they do this at home on a regular basis.

Sc. Quiz

Good morning,

I will be giving the students a quiz in Science on Thursday.  We went over the material to study and they will be bringing home their booklet to study.    The material they are to study is the following:

- The importance of knowing the long term and short term forecast
- Name a way of predicting the weather (old wives tales, eg. Red Sky Sailors Delight...)
- Draw and identify the different parts of the water cycle
- Identify the 3 main categories of clouds (cumulus, cirrus, stratus)
- Identify the difference between climate and weather

I will also do a review tomorrow in class.  Any students who were not here today will do their quiz on Friday or the following week and I will go over the quiz with them tomorrow or once they are back at school.

Field Trip

Good morning,

Next week (January12th), we will be going to the Human Rights Museum during the afternoon.  The cost is $8.00.  A letter will be sent home today with more information.  We are in need of 2 volunteers.  I am only able to accept the first 2 volunteers.  Any other volunteers would have to pay the cost of entry ($15.00).  If you are able to volunteer, please let me know.
