April Newsletter

Hello parents, it is hard to believe, but we are nearing the end of yet another school .  Here is what we have been studying in 5-22:

ELA:
We have continued to read the Banished from our Home to go along with our studies of Acadians.  We have also worked on grammar, especially the placements of commas.  The students have also paired up with a partner to create a comic strip using different apps available on the iPads.

Sciences humaines:
We have begun looking at the Hudson Bay Company and their expansion in North America during the 18th century as well as their competition with the North West Company.  We have also begun to look at the animals, which were used during the Fur Trade.

Sciences de la nature:
We have been finishing off the units on the human body.  Students identified the different systems and what their functions are.

Français:
This month we studied the novel Babouche est jalouse and students had an opportunity to illustrate, and make connections. We also finished our reading groups and answering higher-level (inferencing) questions.

Math:
We continue to work on problem solving strategies.  We have begun to look at fractions, vocabulary and equivalent fractions (for example 2/4=1/2)

Art:
The students incorporated Math and Art by creating equivalent fractions.  They also drew or painted a background for their technology project.  We will have a professional visual artist coming during the month of May.

Hygiene:
M. Senecal has also come into the class to begin teaching Family Life
