Bag Up Manitoba

Good evening,

This year, the grade 5 students are once again participating in Take Pride Winnipeg’s Bag Up Manitoba.

We are asking families to bring in their plastic bags.  Each participating school receives 2 plastic birdhouses and winning schools will receive a park bench.  Both are made with recycled material.

École Assiniboine has participated in this program for the past 3 years and we would like to continue collecting plastic bags in order to win another park bench.

Here is a list of all of the plastic bags you can bring in:
-       Grocery bags                                      -    Case Over-wrap
-       Newspaper sleeves                           -     Pellet Bags
-       Produce bags                                     -     Salt Bags
-       Bread bags                                         -     Dry Cleaning Bags
-       Ice bags                                              -     Ziplock Bags
-       Bubble wrap                                      -     Cereal Bags

The grade 5 students will be collecting plastic bags from Monday September 30 – Friday November 1.  They will count the bags throughout the month.

Thank you for your support,
The Grade 5 students

A few notes ...

Good evening,

Here are a few notes for parents:

1.  The LCM homework for the week will be to read the book La rentrée that we are currently reading in class.  The students will be presenting the play with a small group in the next couple of weeks.

2.  I am asking students to bring in some photos that they can use for an art project.  We will be creating a time line of our lives and we will be cutting out parts of the picture.  If you would prefer, you can also email me photos and I can crop them and print them out so that they fit on the project.  You can email me the photos at scraciun@sjsd.net.

As always, please email me if you have any questions.

Merci,
Mme C

Character Bag

Good afternoon,

As a class, we have discussed our 4 basic needs in order to be happy: Love and Belonging, Freedom, Power, Fun.

Starting on Tuesday, each student will present their character bag to the class.  The students are asked to bring a paper or a plastic bag and items from home which represents all 4 needs.  One item can represent more than one need (for example, a photo with friends could represent love and belonging as well as fun).  The items should be small enough to fit into their bag, for example, if a dog represents love and belonging, the student could bring a dog collar or a dog toy.

I will give them time on Monday to practice presenting.

Here is an example of what I would include in my character bag:

Power and Freedom - A cd to represent music because I love to sing.  I feel I have a good voice (power) and I feel free when I sing (freedom).

Love and belonging and Fun - I would bring some photos of my family and friends and a cat toy to represent my pets.

If you have any questions, please send me an email as soon as possible and I will respond right away.

Have a great weekend!

Koats for Kids

Good morning!

The Ecole Assiniboine community has proudly supported United Way's Koats for Kids program for the past few years.  Our generosity has been greatly appreciated and hasn't gone unnoticed.  We have been able to help provide winter outerwear to children and families who need it.

Every year an event is held to launch the Koats for Kids program.  This year the event will be held at Ecole Assiniboine on September 25th at 10:30 in the gym.  The media and some of their partners will be invited out for a short program.  Perhaps a local celebrity will also attend which would be a great hit for everyone.

A media release form is being sent home today.  The form must be filled out for your child to participate in the launch.  Forms are due back at school by September 24th at the latest.  Parents and family members are also invited to attend.

We will start collecting right away.  If you have winter outerwear that you no longer need, please bring it to the school.

Thanks again for your support!

Lecture Chez Moi/Home Reading

Good afternoon,

The students chose their first LCM book today and some chose a HR book from the classroom library.

The students are expected to read in English and in French everyday.  Their sheet should be signed once a week indicating the books their child has read throughout the week.  If the student has read the same book (a novel) throughout the week, parents are only expected to sign for that one book once, but indicate that their child read the same book throughout the week.

The students all chose a French book from the classroom and my change their books throughout the week.  If they are confident that they can choose a different level book, they can come and see me and I will read with them.

I will also test them once or twice a month to make sure they are choosing books appropriate to their reading skills.

If you do have any questions, please feel free to contact me (scraciun@sjsd.net).

Merci!

Forms

Bonjour!

The morning went wonderfully in our room.  I am very excited to teach these great students.

Just a friendly reminder that there are 3 forms that need to be handed in:
- Medical (white paper)
- Family Life/Internet Usage/Media Release (orange paper)
- Demographics (white paper)

If you can hand these in by Monday, it would be greatly appreciated.

Have a great weekend!
Stephanie
