Great Canadian Mail Race

Good morning,

Back in October, we received a letter asking the grade 5 students to participate in the Great Canadian Mail Race.  Students have written a letter and will send it off to a school in Winnipeg.  I am asking students over the weekend to find an address to a school in Canada (preferably a French Immersion or Dual Track school).  I have a few students who have already requested Winnipeg so I am asking all other students to choose another city.  I am also asking students to bring an enveloppe with a stamp for Monday, this way I will be able to mail them off.

Project Fair

• Project Fair - March 12, 2015

• All students are encouraged to enter a display or project into the fair. The fair will include a variety of project categories: Creative Writing, Research, Science, Heritage and Mathematics.
• 
  
• There are guideline booklets which detail how to prepare a project on the school website at: http://assiniboine.sjsd.net.
• 
  
• To enter the fair simply fill in the entry form and bring it to your homeroom teacher.
• 
  
• Students are invited to come to the library from 11:45 - 12:25 for help organizing and preparing their project on the following days:

Homework

Good afternoon,

Here is a list of some homework assignments coming up:

1. Tonight I am asking the students to complete p. 148 in their Multiplication booklet.  If it is not completed, they will be missing free time at the end of the day unless I have an email or a note explaining why they were not able to complete it.  I have shown them a few ways of doing the questions.  They may choose a strategy they are most comfortable with.  You may assist them as well using the strategy we would have learned in school.  The goal is that they are able to show their work, and come up with the correct answer.

2. Over the weekend, I will be sending them home with their discours.  They are to have their introduction and the first 2 body paragraphs done.  I have been giving them time in class and I will give them about 40 minutes tomorrow to work on this.

A few notes ...

Good afternoon,

Here are a few notes...

1. I've sent students work home with students today who were not yet done their plan for the their speech and p. 146 in their multiplication booklet, 1 digit x 3 digits.

2. Just a reminder that we will be going to the Museum on Wednesday.  For volunteers meeting us there, we should arrive by 12:50.

3. A note was sent home today regarding kindness week next and the various activities the students can complete.

Discours

Good morning,

It's that time of year where the students will begin to write their French speeches.  I am asking the students to think about a topic and to do some research at home.  They may either print out their info, or have them write notes while doing their research and they can bring their notes to school.   I will give them 2 periods as well.  This may be considered their reading for the week as well.  I will be sending home further information today about the speeches.

Special Lunch

Good afternoon,

A form is being sent home today regarding the special lunches being offered from January until March.  The February portion which is at the back of the form, is being offered for free during the week of Festival du Voyageur.  It consists of pancakes, oranges, sausages, and juice (a vegetarian option is also available).  If you do not wish to purchase the lunch in January and March, but would like the lunch in February, please still fill out the back of the form and return it with your child to school.

Canadian Museum for Human Rights

Good morning,

On the afternoon of January 21st, we will be going to the Canadian Museum for Human Rights.  The cost of the excursion is $5.00.

I am still in need of one more parent who can accompany us on the bus.  This volunteer must have the required forms filled out.  Thank you to those parents who will be meeting us at the Museum.
